Venue and Travel
Venue
EDCC 2027 will be held close to the Gløshaugen campus of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), which overlooks the city center of Trondheim. The tentative venue for the main conference sessions is the Scandic Lerkendal hotel and conference center, located just a few minutes’ walk from the campus.
The confirmed location and detailed information on the specific buildings and rooms will be announced closer to the event.
Getting to Trondheim
By Plane
Trondheim has an international airport, Trondheim Lufthavn Værnes (TRD), located approximately 30 minutes from the city center. The airport offers frequent connections to some of the major European hubs.
By Train
If you are not in a rush, it is possible to reach Trondheim by train from Oslo, through the Dovrebanen. It is however a quite long journey (6-7 hours), and it is not the most convenient option for most travelers. It can be a good choice for those who want to enjoy a scenic route; night trains are also available. Pricewise, it is a usually a similar price than flying. You can book your ticket on the Vy website.
Reaching the city center
From the airport, the city center can be reached using different transportation options:
Train — Convenient option to reach the city center (47 NOK). You can use the local bus ticket (see local transportation below), or you can purchase the train ticket at the automated machine close to the tracks at the airport. The schedule is also found in the local bus app. Get off at Trondheim S, from there you can reach the same bus ticket to reach the hotel or the conference venue.
Shuttle Bus — Værnes Expressen offers a shuttle bus service to and from the airport (250-300 NOK). The bus goes through the city center and close by to many hotels. Hotels are announced on board. The stop closest to the venue served by the Shuttle Bus is Lerkendal 4(TrønderEnergi), which is just in front of the Scandic Lerkendal hotel.
Taxi — Taxis can be found outside the airport. Trøndertaxi offers a less expensive shared airport taxi option, which however needs to be booked in advance. Prices range from 500 NOK (shared taxi) to 1000+ NOK. They have an app, which can be used for booking rides.
Getting around the city
The city centre is compact and walkable, especially on a sunny day. There are however also several transportation options:
Bus — You can find information on bus routes and other public transportation options on the website of AtB, the local bus company. You can buy bus tickets directly in their mobile app. We strongly recommend using the AtB app to purchase tickets (Android / iOS), because it is very uncommon for drivers to sell tickets onboard.
Electric Scooters — If you feel adventurous, and the snow has gone, you can try electric scooters from one of the sharing companies operating in the city: Ryde, Voi, or Tier/Dott. Most of them have convenient day or week plans that work well for exploring the city. Please be careful and be mindful of pedestrian and cyclists.
Bicycle — If you want to exercise a bit, Trondheim Bysykkel is a bicycle sharing service active all around the city. There different payment options, including a convenient three-days pass. While this is most of the times a good and sustainable option, sometimes all the bicycles in the place you are visiting are taken, or vice-versa you cannot return the bicycle because all the stalls are already occupied.
Entur — Entur is also a useful resource for public transportation within Norway. You can use it as a travel planner all around the country, and you can also purchase tickets for most routes. It tends to be more foreigner-friendly than AtB. In case you have issues with the local AtB app, you can purchase tickets for local buses and trains also in Entur, at the same price. Mobile app is also available.
